Hello
For over 20 years, Ryan has been observing the landscapes of Aotearoa and capturing their beauty through photography. He regularly uses such imagery and combines it with mix media to create album covers and flyers for electronic music artists. Ryan is also a drum & bass producer, having DJ’d for several years in 90s and contributing the wider dance music scene in Ōtautahi.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Ryan captures the organic beauty of landscapes, oceans and wildlife through photography. He lives with his family in a place called Ruapuke, located on the rural west coast of Raglan, New Zealand. Here in Raglan, Ryan has found the perfect space and community to work creatively. RQ PRODUCT displays a selection of his photography here available for purchase to have in your home.
MUSIC
In addition, Ryan Quinlivan is well renowned in the music world. Known as ‘RQ’ in the music scene, Ryan has enjoyed being part of the drum n bass community since the early 90s as a producer and DJ. Likewise to his photography and graphic design, Ryan’s music is inextricably linked to the environment that surrounds him. Recently, Ryan released an album, ‘Solid Ground’, on the label Blu Mar Ten. Again, Solid Ground was the direct result of Ryan becoming deeply connected to the landscapes, oceans and wildlife of Ruapuke. Not only has Ruapuke provided the solace for creativity, its organic moody and rugged elements facilitated inspiration for Ryan.
Ryan is, however, always innovating his sound. For instance, this year he self released a commercial track called ‘Be There’ with collaborator Frankie. This track deviates from his usual underground sound. Similarly, Ryan diverged again in 2020, releasing ‘Obsidian’ on Loxy’s digital imprint CX. GRAPHIC DESIGN
Moreover, Ryan Quinlivan specialises in the graphic design of album covers, promotional flyers and retail goods for musicians. He regularly uses his organic photography and combines it with mixed media sourced from nature to produce graphic design for clients. Ryan is resident graphic designer for the international music label’s Samurai Music and Soul In Motion. Additionally, he has collaborated other international labels, including Metalheadz, Commercial Suicide, Valve and V Recordings. In 2016, Julius Society, a high-end Japanese Fashion House, commissioned Ryan to design fabric and vinyl music packaging. Locally, RQ PRODUCT collaborates with New Zealand promoters to help advertise music gigs, festivals and produce merchandise.
